5670e38efb scan-build: close stdio FILEs on error in tor-gencert
This is harmless, since tor-gencert exits right afterwards, but it's
best to clean up after ourselves.

e83eddd113 Add missing -Isrc/ext to tor-fw-helper/include.am
We need this now that tor-fw-helper will pull in siphash.h

Fixes bug 11296; bugfix on 0.2.5.4-alpha where siphash.h was introduced.

a3e0a87d95 Completely refactor how FILENAME_PRIVATE works
We previously used FILENAME_PRIVATE identifiers mostly for
identifiers exposed only to the unit tests... but also for
identifiers exposed to the benchmarker, and sometimes for
identifiers exposed to a similar module, and occasionally for no
really good reason at all.

Now, we use FILENAME_PRIVATE identifiers for identifiers shared by
Tor and the unit tests. They should be defined static when we
aren't building the unit test, and globally visible otherwise. (The
STATIC macro will keep us honest here.)

For identifiers used only by the unit tests and never by Tor at all,
on the other hand, we wrap them in #ifdef TOR_UNIT_TESTS.

This is not the motivating use case for the split test/non-test
build system; it's just a test example to see how it works, and to
take a chance to clean up the code a little.

03efe54027 Use option name --test-commandline in tor-fw-helper.
It was previously --Test in the help output and --test-commandline in
the getopt call. The man page already had --test.

  (Originally by David, who resolved the tie in favor of "--test"; I
   chose --test-commandline" instead so that nothing that depended
   on it could break. -Nick)

e4d2177d31 Fix some basic socket issues with tor-fw-helper-natpmp on windows
This isn't going to be the last of these issues, but we might as
well take the fixes as we find them.

49dd5ef3a3 Add and use and unlikely-to-be-eliminated memwipe()
Apparently some compilers like to eliminate memset() operations on
data that's about to go out-of-scope. I've gone with the safest
possible replacement, which might be a bit slow. I don't think this
is critical path in any way that will affect performance, but if it
is, we can work on that in 0.2.4.

Fixes bug 7352.

56c0baa523 Rename all reserved C identifiers we defined
For everything we declare that starts with _, make it end with _ instead.

This is a machine-generated patch. To make it, start by getting the
list of reserved identifiers using:

     git ls-tree -r --name-only HEAD | grep  '\.[ch]$' | \
       xargs ctags --c-kinds=defglmpstuvx -o - | grep '^_' | \
       cut -f 1 | sort| uniq

You might need gnu ctags.

Then pipe the output through this script:
==============================

use strict;

BEGIN { print "#!/usr/bin/perl -w -i -p\n\n"; }

chomp;

next if (
     /^__attribute__/ or
     /^__func__/ or
     /^_FILE_OFFSET_BITS/ or
     /^_FORTIFY_SOURCE/ or
     /^_GNU_SOURCE/ or
     /^_WIN32/ or
     /^_DARWIN_UNLIMITED/ or
     /^_FILE_OFFSET_BITS/ or
     /^_LARGEFILE64_SOURCE/ or
     /^_LFS64_LARGEFILE/ or
     /^__cdecl/ or
     /^__attribute__/ or
     /^__func__/ or
    /^_WIN32_WINNT/);

my $ident = $_;

my $better = $ident;
$better =~ s/^_//;

$better = "${better}_";

print "s/(?<![A-Za-z0-9_])$ident(?![A-Za-z0-9_])/$better/g;\n";
==============================

Then run the resulting script on all the files you want to change.
(That is, all the C except that in src/ext.) The resulting script was:

0cb921f3e9 Convert all include-guard macros to avoid reserved identifiers.
In C, we technically aren't supposed to define our own things that
start with an underscore.

This is a purely machine-generated commit. First, I ran this script
on all the headers in src/{common,or,test,tools/*}/*.h :
==============================

use strict;

my %macros = ();
my %skipped = ();
FILE: for my $fn (@ARGV) {
    my $f = $fn;
    if ($fn !~ /^\.\//) {
	$f = "./$fn";
    }
    $skipped{$fn} = 0;
    open(F, $fn);
    while (<F>) {
	if (/^#ifndef ([A-Za-z0-9_]+)/) {
	    $macros{$fn} = $1;
	    next FILE;
	}
    }
}

print "#!/usr/bin/perl -w -i -p\n\n";
for my $fn (@ARGV) {
    if (! exists $macros{$fn}) {
	print "# No macro known for $fn!\n" if (!$skipped{$fn});
	next;
    }
    if ($macros{$fn} !~ /_H_?$/) {
	print "# Weird macro for $fn...\n";
    }
    my $goodmacro = uc $fn;
    $goodmacro =~ s#.*/##;
    $goodmacro =~ s#[\/\-\.]#_#g;
    print "s/(?<![A-Za-z0-9_])$macros{$fn}(?![A-Za-z0-9_])/TOR_${goodmacro}/g;\n"
}
==============================

It produced the following output, which I then re-ran on those same files:

2a4a149624 Move to non-recursive make
This gives us a few benefits:
1) make -j clean all
   this will start working, as it should. It currently doesn't.
2) increased parallel build
   recursive make will max out at number of files in a directory,
   non-recursive make doesn't have such a limitation
3) Removal of duplicate information in make files,
   less error prone

I've also slightly updated how we call AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE, as the way
that was used was not only deprecated but will be *removed* in the next
major automake release (1.13).... so probably best that we can continue
to bulid tor without requiring old automake.
(see http://www.gnu.org/software/automake/manual/html_node/Public-Macros.html )

The bump from miniupnpc-1.5 to 1.6 changes the definition of
two functions used by tor-fw-helper-upnp.c, upnpDiscover() and
UPNP_AddPortMapping(). This patch addresses this and adds a
check in configure.in for backwards compatibility.

Now let's have "lookup" indicate that there can be a hostname
resolution, and "parse" indicate that there wasn't. Previously, we
had one "lookup" function that did resolution; four "parse" functions,
half of which did resolution; and a "from_str()" function that didn't
do resolution. That's confusing and error-prone!

The code changes in this commit are exactly the result of this perl
script, run under "perl -p -i.bak" :

  s/tor_addr_port_parse/tor_addr_port_lookup/g;
  s/parse_addr_port(?=[^_])/addr_port_lookup/g;
  s/tor_addr_from_str/tor_addr_parse/g;

This patch leaves aton and pton alone: their naming convention and
behavior is is determined by the sockets API.

More renaming may be needed.

57810c333a Remove the -F option from tor-resolve.
It used to mean "Force": it would tell tor-resolve to ask tor to
resolve an address even if it ended with .onion. But when
AutomapHostsOnResolve was added, automatically refusing to resolve
.onion hosts stopped making sense. So in 0.2.1.16-rc (commit
298dc95dfd), we made tor-resolve happy to resolve anything.

The -F option stayed in, though, even though it didn't do anything.
Oddly, it never got documented.

Found while fixing GCC 4.6 "set, unused variable" warnings.

Having very long single lines with lots and lots of things in them
tends to make files hard to diff and hard to merge. Since our tools

within reason.

This incidentally turned up a few headers in configure.in that we were
for some reason searching for twice.

14bc4dcc22 Rename log.h to torlog.h
This should make us conflict less with system files named "log.h".
Yes, we shouldn't have been conflicting with those anyway, but some
people's compilers act very oddly.

The actual change was done with one "git mv", by editing
Makefile.am, and running
   find . -name '*.[ch]' | xargs perl -i -pe 'if (/^#include.*\Wlog.h/) {s/log.h/torlog.h/; }'

d35b8dc582 Make expand_filename into a tor_strdup() alias on windows.
On Windows, we don't have a notion of ~ meaning "our homedir", so we
were deliberately using an #ifdef to avoid calling expand_filename()
in multiple places. This is silly: The right place to turn a function
into a no-op on a single platform is in the function itself, not in
every single call-site.

a5e83769b7 Build Bug: -lm should come after passing ../common/libor.a to linker
The following commit:

    commit e56747f9cf
    Author: Nick Mathewson <nickm@torproject.org>
    Date:   Tue Dec 15 14:32:55 2009 -0500

        Refactor a bit so that it is safe to include math.h, and mostly not needed.

introduced this line:

    tor_resolve_LDADD = -lm ../common/libor.a @TOR_LIB_WS32@

which caused the build to fail, because only ../common/libor.a
(via the embedded ../common/util.o via ../common/util.c)
referenced libm's `lround' and `log' symbols, so that the
linker (GNU ld) didn't bother to import those symbols before
reading ../common/libor.a, thus leaving those symbols undefined.

The solution was to swap the order, producing the line:

    tor_resolve_LDADD = ../common/libor.a -lm @TOR_LIB_WS32@

d471795764 Make tor-gencert build on Android
Previously, tor-gencert would call RSA_generate_key() directly.
This won't work on Android, which removes the (deprecated since
OpenSSL 0.9.8) function.  We can't call RSA_generate_key_ex()
unconditionally either, since that didn't exist before 0.9.8.
Instead, we must call our own crypto_pk_generate_key_with_bits,
which knows how to call RSA_generate_key or RSA_generate_key_ex as
appropriate.

8c585cce39 Include util.h and log.h as relative paths.
This shouldn't be necessary, but apparently the Android cross-compiler
doesn't respect -I as well as it should. (-I is supposed to add to the
*front* of the search path. Android's gcc wrapper apparently likes to add to
the end. This is broken, but we need to work around it.)

298dc95dfd tor-resolve: Don't automatically refuse .onion addresses.
If the Tor is running with AutomapHostsOnResolve set, it _is_
reasonable to do a DNS lookup on a .onion address. So instead we make
tor-resolve willing to try to resolve anything. Only if Tor refuses
to resolve it do we suggest to the user that resolving a .onion
address may not work.

Fix for bug 1005.

e5b88dc83f Update Tor to use Libevent 2.0 APIs when available.
This patch adds a new compat_libevent.[ch] set of files, and moves our
Libevent compatibility and utilitity functions there. We build them
into a separate .a so that nothing else in src/commmon depends on
Libevent (partially fixing bug 507).

Also, do not use our own built-in evdns copy when we have Libevent
2.0, whose evdns is finally good enough (thus fixing Bug 920).
